We are Helena and João
Costa, we have 2 children, João Manuel
and Joana. We've got a big passion
in common: the Rafeiro do Alentejo dog and
the Serra de Aires dog.
It all began in the end
of 1997, when we thought about acquiring
an animal of the breed Rafeiro do
Alentejo.
We read all that we could
find about this breed, as well as
attending all the shows organized by the
Association of Breeders of the Rafeiro
do Alentejo (ACRA), and the exibitions
organized by the Portuguese Canine Club
(CPC) - maximum entity that rules all
the canine events in Portugal.
We were fascinated by the
Rafeiro do Alentejo, by their
magnificence, rudeness, nobility and
dignity.
On
April of 1998, our first female
puppy Rafeira do Alentejo was born, named Fava da
Planície Dourada, also knowned as Beja.
All that we've read about
this breed had become true: Beja was very
docile, calm, serene, very tender with
children, an excellent guard... In short:
she was spectacular!
Also in the same year, we
acquired a male, so that Beja wouldn't
feel lonely. And, so, in Dezember of
1998, we got our "honourable" Elo, who
was already three years old. We'll never
forget Elo. He gave us many joys: won
many titles, both national and
international; achiving incredible
results for the breed. We miss him very
much...
In 1999 we began our
kennel, with thw affix «Paio Pires»,
aknoleged by the Portuguese Canine Club
(CPC) and by the International Canine
Federation (FCI).
Paio
Pires Kennel is situated in the
parish of the Village of
Paio Pires, region of Seixal, district
of Setúbal. Paio Pires proceeds from the
name of a great medievel conquer D. Payo
de Peres Corrêa.
In 2000 we had our first
litter of Rafeiros do Alentejo, and we
have never stoped since then.
As the years went by, and
in 2004, we made João's dream come true,
by acquiring two Serra de Aires dogs, a
male and one female, Dom da Casa da
Costa and Dona da Casa da Costa.
Also a portuguese breed
that we much admire, not only because of
its beauty, but mostly, for its skills.
This dogs are extremely
inteligent, a bit sensitive but very
found and loyal to their owners.
We are
developing a serious work, responsable,
with much love, aiming for the gould the
Breeding, Sellection and Divulgation of
those Noble Breeds
